The Workers Party have
strongly condemned the receiver appointed to Waterford Wedgwood after his decision to close the Kilbarry plant with immediate
effect.
The party says that
it fully supports the decision of the workers to occupy the factory and says that the receiver had acted shamefully in not
giving workers proper notice or giving more time for a buyer for Waterford Crystal as a going concern.
“The Workers’
Party is fully behind the workers in their bid to defend their jobs and to get solid assurances for themselves and the company’s
pensioners that they would get their full entitlements. The receiver’s
hasty move to close down the company must be questioned and the workers were right to occupy the premises and fight for their
jobs and for their rights” said Waterford Workers Party chairman Seán Walsh.
