The Central Executive Committee / Ard Comhairle of the Workers’ Party met in special session in Dublin this morning (Saturday) to discuss the arrest of former Party President Seán Garland on foot of an extradition request from the United States of America.

The party’s central executive unanimously passed the following motion:

“The Ard Comhairle condemns the baseless arrest of Seán Garland at he behest of the US State Department.  In particular we condemn the manner of Seán’s arrest outside the party offices in Dublin and his detention in custody even though he has at all times made himself available to the gardaí in relation to this matter”.

“Seán is heartened at the huge level of support that has been pouring in for him from across the political spectrum at home and abroad.  This support is a great source of solace to him at this time”.

“Seán Garland and the Workers’ Party are confident that this baseless attempt to extradite him will fail and that Seán will be fully vindicated”.
