THE WORKERS' PARTY OF IRELAND

Ard Comhairle solidarity with Waterford workers

Party Executive expresses full support for actions of workers

The Ard Comhairle of the Workers’ Party, meeting in Dublin today, passed a unanimous motion of solidarity with the Waterford Crystal workers and pensioners and the party roundly condemned the actions of the company’s receiver in closing the factory yesterday (Friday).

The party executive said the actions of receiver David Carson were appalling and had left workers at Waterford Crystal with no other alternative but to occupy the factory.

The Workers’ Party fully supports the workers and urges all workers, not just in Waterford, but throughout the country to support them.  People who have given a lifetime of solid service to Waterford Crystal have been treated with contempt.   The receiver has deliberately fast-tracked the closure of this company and has failed to communicate properly or honestly with workers who have serious worries over their entitlements and particularly their pension arrangements.  They have every right to be angry and deserve the full support of all workers who must stick together at this time”
