The President of the Workers’ Party
Michael Finnegan has today (Thursday 11th March) condemned the announcement by Aer Lingus management that it intends
to sack all of its cabin crew and rehire them on lesser contracts as “utterly reprehensible Ryanair style bully-boy
tactics”.
Mr. Finnegan said that the government must
use its 25% stake in Aer Lingus in an attempt to restrain the management and he called for the outlawing of “fire and
rehire” tactic which was most infamously used some years ago by Irish Ferries.
“The workers at Aer Lingus have given
sacrifice after sacrifice over the last decade in order to save the company yet each time the management have come back demanding
more. The company’s assault on its employees’ pay and conditions
has been nothing less than a war of retribution against a loyal and hardworking staff”.
