THE WORKERS' PARTY OF IRELAND

GOVERNMENT GUILTY OF ECONOMIC TREASON
If the government have even a vestige of decency left they should resign this very day, pack their collective bags, and let the people decide on a new government

The President of the Workers’ Party Michael Finnegan has said that the Fianna Fáil / Green Party government committed economic treason when they signed the bank guarantee in 2008, and that this act has now led to the loss of the country’s economic sovereignty.

Mr. Finnegan said that the Irish people now know the real meaning of Minister Lenihan’s words “shared sovereignty”.  “It means” he said “that the Irish people now have no power over any economic decisions and that, for the next generation at least, we would be ruled, de facto, by international bankers and their IMF and European Union servants. The fate of every family, every one of the 1.8 million people at work or the 450,000 out of work, as well as the fate of every child and pensioner in this state has now been handed over by this failed FF / Green Party / PD coalition to a coterie of unelected officials from the IMF, the ECB and the European Commission”.

“In the face of all rational argument the government refuses to admit that the bank debt is now sovereign debt and that the problem of funding the banks for their continued operations is completely annihilating the possibility of the Irish state accessing funds on the international markets to finance the budget deficit at anything other than double-digit interest rates. Once again it is reinforced that the Golden Circle, a gang of bankers, builders and speculators numbering only 100-200 individuals, has bankrupt our state and negated 80 years of the collective effort of the citizens to develop and modernise this state and become masters of our own destiny”.

“The Workers’ Party has pointed out on many occasions that hundreds of people are jailed each year for the non-payment of debt, including such trivial issues as non-payment of TV licences. The Golden Circle owe this state tens of billions of Euro. It is a disgrace that they can walk away into the sunset with their millions stashed safely overseas while we, the citizens, are left to live with the mess they created. In any self-respecting democracy this gang would be tried for treason and subverting the independence of the state”

“This government has lied to, deceived, and sold out the Irish people.  The actions of Brian Cowen and his government are nothing less than appalling and they must be held responsible for the damage that they have done to this country, its people and its reputation. If they have even a vestige of decency left they should resign this very day, pack their collective bags, and let the people decide on a new government”.
