Dear Comrades,

The Central Executive Committee of the Workers’ Party of Ireland sends warm comradely greetings to the Communist Party of Greece on the occasion of your 19th Congress.

The KKE has a long and honourable history of struggle for the emancipation of the Greek working class. It has made many sacrifices and endured many hardships and continues to lead the opposition to the anti-people measures being implemented against the people of Greece and it remains to the forefront of the struggle for democratic rights, the overthrow of capitalism and the construction of socialism-communism.

This is an important Congress taking place at a time of sharpening class conflict and the escalation of tensions by imperialism particularly in the regions of the Middle East and the Korean peninsula. The ramping up of plans for direct military intervention in Syria and the promulgation of myths designed to conceal the nature and programme of a coalition of ultra-reactionary and obscurantist religious forces; anti-democratic, tyrannical and despotic states in the region; Israel and the imperialist powers, are preparatory steps towards intervention and occupation with a view to destabilising and neutralising Syria, altering the balance of power in the area and securing unlimited access by the monopolies to the valuable natural resources of the region.

At times of crisis in the capitalist system, the working class has a vested interest in destroying the old economic order creating the conditions for the development of a new mode of production and advancing society to a new and higher stage. Ultimately, in these conditions, the working class can only emancipate itself by abolishing capitalist relations of production and constructing a socialist society. Socialism – the assumption of political, social and economic power by the working class – is the only means to establish real freedom and genuine equality.

The unceasing role of the KKE in supporting Cuba and the socialist countries, its consistent anti-imperialist stance, the facilitation of the work of the international Communist and Workers’ Parties, the assistance and solidarity rendered to fraternal parties, including our own party in Ireland, are a testament to the dedicated socialist internationalism of the Communist Party of Greece.

Your consistent defence of the principles of Marxism-Leninism and the unequivocal rejection of revisionism and opportunism has provided an inspiration to fraternal parties struggling for the overthrow of capitalism and the taking of power by the working class.

The Central Executive Committee of the Workers’ Party of Ireland salutes the KKE and sends its best wishes to the participants in the Congress and to the leadership and militants of the KKE. We have no doubt that your deliberations will strengthen the work and revolutionary programme of the KKE. We wish you continued success and look forward to further strengthening the already close relations between our two parties.

Long live the Communist Party of Greece

Socialism is the alternative
