The Workers’ Party of Ireland condemns the repression and
aggressive attacks of the Turkish state against the recent protests of the
Turkish people. These attacks have caused death and injuries and many Turkish
citizens have been arrested for defending their democratic rights. These
protests have been provoked by the reactionary ideology and increasingly authoritarian
policies of the AKP which has demonstrated its deep hostility towards working
people.
The Workers’ Party recognises that the TKP and the Communist
Youth of Turkey have been to the forefront of these struggles, denounces the
repression and salutes the hundreds of thousands of people who are
demonstrating peacefully for their just economic, social and political demands.
We condemn, in particular, the attack to the offices of the Communist Party of
Turkey and the attack on the Cultural Centre “Nazim Hikmet” in Istanbul and
demand the immediate release of all those who have been arrested.
The Workers’ Party of Ireland expresses its solidarity with
the people of Turkey and the TKP and the Communist Youth of Turkey in the
current period of brutal state repression. We wish to endorse and sign the
statement of solidarity signed by the communist and workers’ parties in support
of our comrades in the TKP.
